St. John's Wort

[St. John's Wort]

St. John's Wort (Hyperium perforatum) is used as a medicinal herb. Flowering tops are used to counter depression and it also may help viral infections.

      Medicinal uses:

    • Given to treat depression.
    • Antiviral, being studied in treating AIDS.
    • Tonic for nervous disorders, menopause and female hormones.
    • Used for ulcers.
    • Used for bacterial infections internal and external.

Cold Preventative:

St. John's Wort is used at first sign of cold. Crush 20 leaves, mix with honey and eat.

St. John's Wort Tea:

Two or three springs of St. John's Wort steeped in hot water for five minutes. Used as a digestive tonic and for depression. Add honey to sweeten.

Caution: St. John's Wort may cause allegies. Soak some tea on a band aid and keep on skin for two days to test for allery reaction.
